SimGuruMalcolm’s Patch Notes

I’m not actually a SimGuru, but it almost feels like I am, especially when considering how much time, effort, and money I’ve put into the Sims. I’ve been playing the Sims for almost four or five years now, and I’ve been in love with it since I first got it. However, this post is not going to be about this. Instead, I’m going to highlight what I don’t like about the Sims, and what I would change about if I were a SimGuru.

Let’s start with an update I wasn’t a fan of. A long while ago, there was an update for the Sims that just straight-up removed some of the testingcheats, including the “add_buff” cheat. I know there’s multiple mods out there that put these cheats back in the game, but I don’t understand why they were taken out in the first place.

I’m also not a fan of seeing English text in-game, aside from things like text messages and whatnot. The Sims team is usually pretty good with keeping Simlish lettering the only language you’ll see, whether it be in books, on the computer, or a street sign. There are, however, a few places that they’ve missed. One of these is on the “It Gets Better” shirts. The Sims recently had a partnership with the It Gets Better organization in support of the LGBT community, and added many pride-themed items, including new T-shirts with the phrase “It gets better” printed on it. As supportive of this as I am, I’m not of fan of the English text on the shirt. The “It’s On Us” shirt is another example, and that shirt has been a part of the game since its initial release. If it were up to me, the English text would be changed to Simlish, regardless of whether it’s a part of something real or not.

Lastly, I need to address the need for a DLC toggler. As much as I love the seasons, having little snowmen being built and various holidays being celebrated, the weather gets awfully annoying sometimes. Not to mention the current toggles they have for rain, thunderstorms, and temperature effects on Sims don’t work. The worst of it is from the vampires. I thought the Vampires game pack was super cool and I love playing with vampire Sims every now and then, but it gets becomes annoying when they constantly break into my house, permitting me from doing things like attending a friend’s birthday party because the vampire is too busy breaking in to not even do anything. All they do is unlock the door, make a pot of coffee, not even drink it, stand around for a couple hours, then leave. All that time is wasted for nothing and it gets very annoying. I’ve already downloaded at least three different mods with the specific intention of getting the vampires to leave me alone, but it would be nice if the Sims could add their own DLC toggler and make it easier for me.

Again, I love this Sims, and it’s arguably my favorite game. These few things, however, are what really gets my goat. I’m no expert on game design, but I don’t think any of these would be that difficult to implement, either. I doubt any actual SimGurus will read this, but in case there is one out there, please fix these.
